A glycolic acid peel is a resurfacing treatment that is the most common among AHA peels and are well tolerated by all skin types with minimal side effects. Glycolic acid is a member of the alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) family, and is valued for its small molecular size which enables it to penetrate deeply into the skin.
Glycolic acid is a colorless, odorless alpha-hydroxy-acid (AHA) derived from sugarcane. It dissolves the bonds between dead skin cells, allowing them to be wiped away easily, revealing smooth, younger skin below.
Glycolic peels remove the stratum corneum (the outermost layers of the skin) and clear clogged pores to reveal fresh, smooth, and bright skin. They target different types of acne, skin discoloration, or uneven tone and texture. Glycolic acid peels can target these concerns in a noninvasive way and are generally safe for all skin types.
